The Magicians is a fantasy novel by the American author Lev Grossman, published in 2009 by Viking Press. It tells the story of Quentin Coldwater, a young man who discovers and attends a college of magic in New York.

Charlie (Charlotte) is a character loosely based on the novels.

She is a physical magician who was examined for entrance to Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy. During her exam she was not extended an invitation to enter the school. The spell to wipe her memory of the event was countered accidentially and she retained her memory of the interview. Not being accepted sent her into a downward spiral of drug use(pills) as she floundered to recover from the rejection.
